In 2006, Małgorzata Mańka-Szulik was elected as Mayor of the City of Zabrze, Poland. She is the only woman in Silesia region to hold this office. During her first term in office she managed to attract 300 million Euro of European Union funding to the City of Zabrze. She is also a member of the board in Association of Polish Cities. As a founder and president of many Non Government Organizations, she undertakes many cultural, economic and education initiatives. In 2010, she won the re-election in the first run receiving 2nd best result in Poland.
