Dr. Rashid Ahmad Muhammad Bin-Fahad was born in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 1964.

In February 2008 He was appointed Minister of Environment & Water; United Arab Emirates.

He holds the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Environmental Health), University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, 2001
  • M.Sc. Environmental Science, University of the United Arab Emirates, 1994
  • B. Sc., Chemical Engineering, Northeastern University, Boston, Mass, USA, 1989.

Work experience:

  • May 2004 – Feb. 2008: Secretary-General, of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Standardization Organization (GSO), Riyadh Saudi Arabia.
  • 2006- Board Vice-Chairman, Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology (ESMA),
  • 2003-2004: Deputy Director General, Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology (ESMA). UAE.
  • 1997-2003: Head, Food & Environment Laboratory, Dubai Municipality, Dubai, U.A.E.
  • 1989-1997: Process Engineer, Dubai Municipality, Dubai, U.A.E.
  • Member of the Higher Committee for the Zayed International Prize for the Environment, Dubai, UAE.
  • Member of Board of Directors, ASTM International (Philadelphia, USA).
  • Member of Water Science and Technology Association, Kingdom of Bahrain.
  • Member of International Water Association (IWA), UK.
  • Head of TBT negotiating team for the UAE-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
